Alumni House to Become a Reality

The University’s more than 48,000 alumni will soon have a new “home” – the William Paterson University Alumni House, located in a picturesque setting at Oldham Pond in North Haledon.

The 7,000-square-foot building and the adjacent 27-acre pond, located a half-mile from the main campus, were donated to the University by the Bayer Corporation in 1998. Extensive renovations are due to begin this fall. Upon completion, the house will become a “home away from home” for returning alumni and will serve as the headquarters for the Alumni Relations Office. The estimated cost of the renovation is $600,000.

As part of the project, the William Paterson Alumni Association has agreed to secure $500,000 in private charitable gifts towards the cost of construction. The Alumni House Campaign Chair, Allan Gorab ’72, and his wife Michele, have committed $100,000 to the project. In recognition of their generosity, the Alumni House will bear their name.
An additional leadership gift has been donated by Margaret Landi ’74 in honor of the late Dr. John Rosengren, professor emeritus of biology, who taught at the university for 37 years. In recognition of her generosity, the laboratories located on the lower level of the building for use by University scientists and students will bear Dr. Rosengren’s name.

“There are many opportunities to help fund the remaining costs,” says Connie Alexis-Laona, annual fund manager. “Every gift brings us closer to opening the doors to our new alumni home.” Opportunities for leadership gifts range from $1,000 through $15,000 and beyond.

Alumni who are interested in supporting the Alumni House Campaign and continuing the strong tradition of philanthropy at William Paterson can call Alexis-Laona at 973.720.2478.

William Paterson Society Provides Special Giving Opportunities

Members of the Society represent those donors who have expressed a commitment to academic excellence and student success with a contribution of $1,000 or more. They are pacesetters who raise sights, create momentum, and set a standard for giving.

President’s Circle $5,000 or more
Partners in Progress $2,500-$4,999

Leadership donors at all levels will receive special benefits, including an invitation to an exclusive reception hosted by the University President and a personal letter of acknowledgment from him; prominent listing as a member in our Honor Roll of Donors; reserved seating at University-sponsored events; and access to a private donor courtesy telephone line for assistance.
Donors of $5,000 and above have the opportunity to host a special event at Hobart Manor, the University’s 120-year-old historic landmark, which offers an elegant and intimate setting for entertaining.
