A Dynamic Residential Community

The residential experience at William Paterson University now offers exciting new opportunities, including two new residence halls which opened in September 2006 and feature innovative approaches to living and learning. We welcome you to life on campus. Residence Life staff supports the education of all residents, fostering the growth and maturity gained by students in our living community. The connection one makes with the University while living in residence is part of the excitement and enjoyment of experiencing college life.

At William Paterson University we know you will make lifelong friends among the students, faculty, and staff. If you would like a tour of our facilities, please schedule a visit through the Admissions Office by calling 973-720-2646. Student Ambassadors will take you around and share their personal experiences.

For resident students, William Paterson offers a variety of accommodations — from double room suites to apartments — that provide a safe and comfortable environment for studying and participating in activities.

High Mountain West
Two new residence halls, known as High Mountain East and High Mountain West, opened on campus for occupancy in September 2006. By late spring, the 61,000-square-foot expansion and renovation of the John Victor Machuga Student Center, which includes renovation of the Machuga Student Center, renovation of Wayne Hall, the student dining facility, and the construction of a new ballroom—also will be complete.

Designed to accommodate 372 students, the new residence halls bring the University’s residential capacity to nearly 2,700 students. High Mountain East and High Mountain West are the first steps in the creation of a ‘learning village’ on campus, where student interaction, creativity, and community-building continue day and night, inside and outside of the classroom.

We want to provide students with an environment that is more than just a place to live.
— John Martone, vice president for student development

Located on the hillside on College Road opposite Hillside Hall, one of the University’s residence halls, the two four-story residence halls each consist of three wings. Four to five suites, comprised of two double rooms and a bathroom, are clustered around a common lounge to allow students to interact in a more comfortable setting, and yet maintain their privacy. Lounges face the fronts of the buildings, which feature glass window façades designed to maximize light and take advantage of wooded views of the campus.

Portions of the residence halls will be dedicated to learning communities centered around wellness, languages and cultures, and the University’s honors programs.  Additional learning communities may be added based on student interest.
