10/28/04: University Archive Opens, read more [PDF]
William Paterson University needs your old yearbooks,
photographs, videos, news articles, banners, posters — any memorabilia
you have from your college days that portray some history about the University
for its NEW University Archive! As a salute to the University's 150th
anniversary in 2005, a University Archive is being established to recognize
and celebrate the history of the University. Efforts are now underway
to collect, organize, and preserve materials relating to the history of
William Paterson University from its earliest days as the Paterson City
Normal School to the present. Materials that are donated (or loaned) will
be housed in the David and Lorraine Cheng Library's environmentally-controlled
Archives and Special Collections Room and many of these items will be
featured in exhibits during the University's year-long celebration of
its sesquicentennial in 2005. According to Robert Wolk, the Cheng Library's Archivist
and Special Collections Librarian, an archive "is vital to any institution
that desires to preserve its traditions and heritage as a way of developing
a distinct identity. William Paterson University has a long and proud
history in its community and in the state of New Jersey. The Archive will
certainly facilitate access to these varied historical materials."
