Faculty and Staff Handbook
Q: In the promotion calendar and policy, what is meant by the “application” submission requirement to the department by November 1st?
A: Candidates are simply required to notify their departments, preferably in writing, of their intent to seek promotion.
Past practice of the respective department determines whether the notification is verbal or in writing, and to whom it is submitted (department chairperson, Promotion Committee chairperson etc.).
Q: Is submission of an Application Checklist in the candidate’s portfolio a requirement for promotion.
A: Yes, all candidates must complete the 2006-2007 Faculty Promotion Application Checklist.
Q: Since student evaluations are required in each class in either the Fall 2006, Spring 2006, or Fall 2006 semester, how will the University Promotion Committee members know the candidate’s workload?
A: The Administration will provide the University Promotion Committee with the workload report of each candidate. As a safeguard, the candidate may provide a brief statement addressing teaching load (number of courses taught in the semester in which evaluations have been provided.)
Q: What student evaluation forms must be used for promotions?
A: The numerical scale brown scan sheets.
Q: If a candidate taught an on-line course, what student evaluation forms should be used?
A: On-line course student evaluations, like in class student evaluations, must be recommended by the department, reviewed by the Union and approved by the Administration. They are not “official” until completion of this process.
Q: Is a promotion interview required?
A: No, but it is strongly recommended. It provides an additional opportunity for candidates to present “self” and address questions the University Promotion Committee members may have regarding individual portfolios.
