Mission Statement

The William Paterson University Mission Statement calls for "Excellence through educational programs that challenge students to high levels of intellectual and personal development." As a department within the University that is dedicated to "Excellence through educational programs", the Office of Human Resources is committed to attracting, encouraging and retaining a highly qualified workforce to support the University's mission of excellence. This commitment is realized through collaboration and consultation in the design and implementation of policies, services, and programs which facilitate the best contributions of all members of the William Paterson Community. Specifically the services and programs we provide assist the various units in the recruitment and retention of faculty, staff and students. These services cover all functional areas of Human Resources including:

  • Development, implementation and interpretation of policies and program.
  • Negotiation of local agreements and compliance with local, state and federal laws.
  • Establishment and maintenance of a stable labor-relations environment.
  • Adminstration of the University's payroll functions.
  • Coordination of programs including faculty, librarians and professional staff retention and tenure, promotion and sabbatical leaves.
  • Recruitment and orientation of civil service employees.
  • Enrollment of all new employees and education relating to benefits, entitlements, privileges, obligations and expectations.
  • Administration of benefit plans including Health and Pension.
  • Staff training and development.
  • Establishment and maintenance of accurate employee records and human resources information systems.
  • Coordination of legal matters with the Office of the Attorney General.
