William Paterson University Art Exhibition Celebrates Printmaking Northeast Prints 2001, an exhibit of the works of professional printmakers, opens at William Paterson University's Ben Shahn Gallery in Wayne, New Jersey. This juried exhibition of prints will be featured in the South and East Galleries Monday, March 19 through Friday, April 27, 2001 and includes intaglio, monotype/monoprint, lithography, silkscreen, wood cut, wood engraving, and processes involving photography-derived imagery and digital collage. The juror for the exhibition is Marilyn Symmes who is the curator of prints and drawings, for the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City (a satellite of the Smithsonian Institution). Symmes has selected the works of twenty-three artists from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Additionally, she will supervise the installation and select winners for purchase awards and monetary awards. Nancy Einreinhofer, Director of William Paterson University's Ben Shahn Gallery, said, "The purpose of the exhibition is two-fold. First, we want to support printmaking in our own visual arts program by stimulating our students' vision by bringing onto our campus quality work in this region. Second, we expand our role in education by providing our patrons with an arresting show juried by an expert in this field." A reception, free and open to the public,
to celebrate this event will take place at the Ben Shahn Gallery
on the campus of William Paterson University on Thursday, April
12, 2001 from 3:00 4:00 p.m. William Paterson University
is located at 300 Pompton Road in Wayne, New Jersey. Directions
and further information can be obtained by phoning the Gallery
at 973.720.2654. The exhibition is made possible, in part, by
a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department
of State.
