Proof of Residency

A student must be domiciled in New Jersey to be considered a resident of New Jersey. Those students that are not domiciled in the state must pay out of state fees. For the purpose of determining residence, Domicile means: The place where a person has his/her true, fixed, permanent home and principal living establishment, and to which, whenever he/she is absent, he/she has the intention of returning.

Residence established solely for the purpose of attending a particular college or university cannot be considered as fulfilling the definition of domicile.

A student must present evidence of his/her domicile to the institution to qualify for resident tuition rates. Such evidence must include:

  • A copy of his/her New Jersey Income Tax Return
  • Rent/ Mortgage receipts
  • Utility receipts
  • Any proof of employment in the state

This proof must be submitted to the Associate Registrar, and a decision will be made as to the students' residence status. If you have any further questions, you can e-mail:treliskyn@wpunj.edu
