A: Work order forms should be filled out when there is a new installation, a move, a disconnect, an equipment change (ex: new phone), a feature change (ex: call pickup requested), a directory update (new person, new location, new number, etc...), and when you need to re-activate service. Q: How do I set up my voice mail, and retrieve my messages?
A: Once a voice mail box has been established by the Telecommunications Office, you can visit Voice Mail Services for further information.
Q: How do I make on-campus and off-campus phone calls?
A: On-campus: dial the last 4 digits of the phone number; Off-campus: dial 9, then 1, the area code and the 7 digit phone number. For further instructions please visit Placing Phone Calls.

A: The University has 9 different Classes of restriction or areas to which phones can call to.

Q: Am I able to reach an outside operator? Can I dial 411? 911?
A: You cannot reach an outside operator from on-campus. You can dial 411 for local directory assistance. For long distance directory dial 9 + 1 + area code + 555-1212. 911 calls are connected to University Police.
Q: If there is a problem with my phone, what do I do?
A: You can attempt to troubleshoot the problem yourself, by following the guidelines provided on the Troubleshooting page. If you should require further assistance you can contact the Telecommunications department at extension 2597.

How are calls billed? Am I billed for the calls I make?
A:
A call record is created for every off campus phone call you make
and charged with the appropriate cost for distance and length of call.
These costs are charged to your departmental telephone budget on a monthly
basis. Call records by extension number are accessible via the web by the Department Chairperson or Director each month. Personal phone calls
should be kept to a minimum. payment for personal phone calls is expected.
Checks can be made out to William Paterson University and sent to the
Telecommunications office for proper credit of your departmental budget.

Is there a cost for replacing or repairing my phone?
A:
Yes, typically there is a service charge or $75/hr for the technicians. In addition, if a phone is
being upgraded, an additional cost based on type of phone set will be
assessed. If it is a new installation, there is also a $325 port cost.
Q: Can
I request a pager, calling card, or cellular phone? Are there any fees?
A: Pagers
and calling cards are issued only with the approval of your department
head. The device authorization form can be filled out specifying your request and faxed back to extension 3598. Numeric pagers are $5.00 a month and Alpha-numeric pagers are
$10.00 a month. Pager and calling card costs are billed to the departmental
telephone budget. Personal calls on a University calling card are expected
to be paid for. Please refer to the device policy for further details. If you have a personal calling card, you can utilize
it by dialing the 800 number associated with your carrier first. You
cannot dial 9 + 0 + number and then enter your calling card number.
Cellular phones are issued by the University to
personnel
as approved by the appropriate Vice President. The University does have a sponsorship program with Cingular, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless, whereby
University employees can receive a cell phone at various rates, dependent
on your needs, and reap additional discounts by being part of the Sponsorship

Are 2-way radios available for use?
A:
Sprint 2-way radios are available on a loan basis to departments for particular
activities or events on campus. Call extension 2597 to request them.
