Voice Mail

Voice mail is an electronic messaging system which allows callers to leave a message when a person is not available. It's similar to an answering machine, but there are many more features and options that come with voice mail. The voice mail system of this University is from Avaya and is called Intuity Audix.

General Information

Personal Voice Mail Boxes

This acts like your own private answering machine. Your personal voice mail box is where callers can leave you, and only you, a message.

You are given a 4 digit number which is your voice mail box number - this number is printed on the back of your Student Technology Handbook that was issued to you during check in.

To set up your voice mail box, follow the instructions titled How to Set Up Your Voice Mail for the First Time.

Passwords

You will need to set up a password for your voice mail box. It should be a minimum of 6 digits. There are three things; however, that it can't be:

1. consecutive numbers (123456)
2. same number repeated for all 6 digits (555555)
3. the same number as your voice mail extension number

Security

When entering in your voice mail extension number and password, if you make a mistake 3 times in a row the system will lock you out. It will tell you to "contact administrator." If this happens you need to call extension 3515 and tell us that you are locked out of your voice mail. Please remember to include your voicemail number when leaving a message.

If you know you made a mistake twice entering in your password, hang up and start over again. The system will reset itself and you will get 3 new tries.

Please note that all voicemail boxes are unlocked at the beginning of each business day. If you require your password to be reset, call extension 3515 and leave a detailed message including your voicemail number and contact information.

If you require immediate assistance with a lockout dial extension 3515.

Mailbox Size and Storage

The amount of space in your mail box is 5 minutes. Your personal greeting uses the same space as your messages, so the longer your greeting, the less space for messages.

Messages will be held in your mail box up to 10 days. After the 10th day, they are automatically deleted.

Re-Setting of Mailboxes

When you leave for the summer, your voice mail will remain active for one month. It will then be reset for September. This is for all residence halls except for the residence hall that is hosting the summer session. Those residents: your voice mail box will be reset right before summer school so the students moving in for summer school can have voice mail.
