The University’s athletic training program, one of the first programs in New Jersey to receive accreditation, has a history of excellence. It is one of the early educational programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and the first Athletic Training program in New Jersey to receive accreditation. Our students perform well on the NATA Board of Certification Examination, and our graduates are in high demand. Since our program’s inception in 1978, at least 80 per cent of our graduates are employed in athletic training careers.

Emerging careers in fitness, wellness and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation have increased the need for professionals with expertise in the field of Exercise Physiology. Our major in Exercise Physiology prepares students for a broad array of career opportunities in fitness, cardiac rehabilitation, exercise physiology, exercise therapy and wellness programming. Various job opportunity settings include corporations, hospitals and clinics as well as independent fitness consultant opportunities. Some professionals develop independent fitness consulting businesses. Job settings include corporations, hospitals and clinics.

The longest-running departmental program, the K-12 physical education teacher certification major, is an NCATE-accredited program. Within it, there are enrichment tracks in drivers education and health education (offered with the public health department).
