Critical Steps Needed for a Prompt Admissions Decision
Write down the Login ID and PIN that you will be asked to create. You must use this information to access the online application.
You must hit "Application is Complete" to submit your application. Your application can only be processed after this is done.
Apply in one sitting and apply only once. Multiple applications create duplicate student records, confusion, and error. Click here to learn how to update or change information on your previously submitted application.
Checking The Status of Your Application: Once you submit your application, the Login ID and PIN you created is no longer valid. You will receive an Application Acknowledgement via regular mail which will contain your nine digit WP Student ID number and PIN. This ID number will be your new Login ID.
If you are unable to access the online application for any reason, please contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office at 973.720.2646 oradmissions@wpunj.edu.
Getting Started
Create your Login ID and PIN. Click on "First Time User Account Creation." You will be prompted to submit a Login ID and PIN that you must remember; please write these down for reference later. For simplicity and ease of remembering, we very strongly suggest the following:
Login ID = your Social Security Number
PIN = your date of birth (MMDDYY...e.g. January 1, 2001 is "010101")
Choose the correct Application Type. It is very important for applicants to select the appropriate application type.
* International students and students with Permanent Resident status, even if educated in the United States, should choose the "International" version of the appropriate application type in the online application. Click here for additional direction.
Enter your Information
Enter all of your information in one sitting. Refer to the Checklist below so you know what to be prepared with.
Please attempt to be as thorough as possible and do not omit information relative to your educational history or intended study. Accuracy and proper use of upper and lower case lettering (i.e. John Smith, not JOHN SMITH or john smith) will help to expedite the processing of your application in a timely fashion.
Online Application
Checklist
Name
Please input your full legal
name. There are spaces for nicknames and previous names.
Permanent Address and Phone
Please input your permanent
address and phone number, completing all required fields
marked with an asterisk (*).
Personal Information
In this section, we request the submission
of your social security number. While the University
no longer uses social security numbers as a primary means
of identification, it is used for reporting purposes
and is required for processing applications for financial
aid. Your e-mail address is requested and is important
for receiving further information as the application
process moves along.
High School information
While this section requests your exact
date of graduation, "graduation date" is
not a required field for this submission.
Previous College Information
Please list all colleges and universities
previously attended. This page can be left blank for
applicants (freshmen) with no prior college experience.
Planned Course of Study
This page requests your choice as an academic
major or Undeclared. This can be changed by the Admissions Office at a later date. Please do not create two applications if you decide to change your intended major (see "Updating or Making Changes to Your Completed Application" below). You may research our academic programs
at our Academics homepage.
Should you be interested in a Teacher
Certification Program, you will need to choose both an academic major (or Undeclared)
and certification. Selections of certification programs
may be found under Extracurricular Activities in the online application. You may
research subject majors with available certification at
the College
of Education Web site. Please also note that,
while commonly referred to as "Special Education," this
certification has been officially renamed by the State
of New Jersey as "Teacher of Students with Disabilities
Endorsement."
Extracurricular Activities
This page allows the opportunity
to indicate activities in which you participated in high
school, as well as those in which you may be interested
in college. You can also use this page to indicate your
interest in On-Campus Housing,
Athletics, the Honors College, or a Teacher
Certification Program.
Additional Information
On this page, you will
find space space to paste your admissions essay. A
200-word (approximate) essay is optional for freshmen
and transfer applicants with less than 32 completed
college credits. The preferred topic is why you are
interested in attending William Paterson University,
although a general essay may be used.
You may paste into your online application or email it later using the "Send e-mail to Admissions" from within your submitted application via the "Returning Users" feature.
This section also includes a request to be considered
for the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program.
Please check the EOF
income eligibility scale to ensure
that your family meets the financial
guidelines stipulated
before indicating your wish to be considered for the
program.
Completing
and Submitting Your Application
Once all required sections are completed, you must click "Application is Complete" to
submit your application for review. You will be brought to a "Signature Page" which is only accessible at this time. Please print this page immediately for future reference.
Updating or Making Changes to Your Completed Application
Once your application is submitted, your Login ID and PIN will allow you to enter the system under "Returning Users"; use "Send e-mail to Admissions" to make updates or change any submitted information (e.g. address, major, etc.). Please do not submit another application to update or change your information.
Click here to make changes or update information on your submitted application.
Alternately, you may contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office at 973.720.2646 or admissions@wpunj.edu for service.
Submission of Supporting Documentation
The Spring/Fall 2008 online application is
not able to process credit card payments. Submit your $50 application fee with a personal check or
money order with a printout of the "Signature Page" you receive after submitting
your application. If you are unable to access this "Signature
Page," please mail your application fee along with a
brief letter, including your name, address, and social security
number. This will enable us to accurately process your fee.
First Year applicants
are very strongly encouraged to have their high school
transcript, most recent report card, and SAT/ACT scores
submitted together. Activity sheets, resumes,
or recommendation letters are optional and may be submitted
along with required documents.
For advanced standing students, official college transcripts
from each college attended are required to be sent directly
to the Admissions Office.
It is the applicant's responsibility
to submit all supporting documentation. An admission
decision will only be rendered after receipt of all credentials.
You may send us your credentials at any time, before or after clicking "Application is Complete." They do not need to be sent simultaneously with your application.
Applications and supporting documentation/credentials
should be directed to:
William Paterson University
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
300 Pompton Road
Wayne, NJ 07470
Confirmation of Application and Checking Application Status
Once you submit your application, the Login ID and Pin you created is no longer valid. Upon submitting your application, you will be sent a Signature Page which contains a 9 digit 855#. This number is your new Login ID. Your new pin is your 6 digit date of birth. We will also send this new information to your home in the mail.
Note: the University has moved to a
new computer system which is affecting the time to process
applications. Please allow 4 - 6 weeks for your application
to be processed and decision rendered. You may check your
application status online at any time.
