Orientation Programs – Building a New Start

New students and parents are invited to participate in orientation activities during the summer and mid-year breaks. All initiatives are designed to highlight various aspects of the university experience and provide essential information to “build a new start.” First-year students are provided an opportunity to meet with faculty and staff advisors as well as receive their pre-packaged schedules based on test scores. Orientation activities also offer a chance for new students to examine a variety of issues and get answers to any questions they may have, about the institution, academic expectations, campus life and resources, etc. Parents explore ways to enhance their relationship with their university student and to better understand the demands being placed on their student, both academically and financially.

In the summer programs, students and parents are invited to participate in a day-and-a-half program with a special overnight opportunity to stay in one of our residence halls. This full program addresses a variety of academic and social aspects and provides multiple ways to connect with student leaders, faculty, and staff to better acclimate new members into the community they are joining.

Summer overnight program highlights include:

  • Transitions to university life (both academic and social)
  • Student to student discussions
  • Academic sessions from each college
  • University Resources Fair
  • Commuter and resident student presentations
  • Financial aid and student billing
  • Career Development and parenting university students 101
  • General education requirements and pre-packaged scheduling
  • Special day and evening events for students and parents

University students are invited to attend orientation after they complete their basic skills testing prior to or during the summer months.

The community looks forward to welcoming new members!

You may also call the Orientation Hotline at 973-720-6206 to leave a message if needed.  Keep in mind that during the summer months the University is closed on Fridays, so your best way to reach us would be through e-mail.
