The University
Founded in the city of Paterson in 1855, William Paterson is one of the nine state colleges and universities in New Jersey.
Campus Size and Location

Students
The University has more than 11,500 students. During the Fall 2011 semester, 10,085 undergraduate students and 1,433 graduate students were enrolled.

The average class size is 20.5, the student to faculty ratio is 16 to 1.
Costs
Annual tuition (including fees) for the 2011-2012 academic year is $11,464 for full-time (12 credits or more) students who are New Jersey residents and $18,628 for full-time nonresident students. Average room and board cost is approximately $10,180 per year. Tuition (including fees) for graduate students who are New Jersey residents is $621 per credit and $964 per credit for nonresidents.
Financial Aid
Available through a number of federal and state grant, loan, scholarship, and work-study programs. Both the University and the Alumni Association award competitive scholarships based on academic merit to entering freshmen.
Housing on Campus
There are ten residence halls on campus with a housing capacity of 2,620 to meet growing student demand for a 24/7 campus experience.
Majors and Degrees
William Paterson University offers more than 250 undergraduate and graduate academic programs through its five colleges: Arts and Communication, Cotsakos College of Business, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Health. Certification is available in early childhood, elementary, secondary, and special education. Preprofessional programs in dentistry, law, medicine, and veterinary medicine are arranged at the request of students.
Facilities
William Paterson University’s more than 38 major buildings include the expanded and renovated Science Complex, David and Lorraine Cheng Library, the the state-of-the-art facility at 1600 Valley Road, which includes interactive classrooms, the Financial Learning Center, and the Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales with its professional sales laboratory; Rec Center, University Galleries, and Shea Center for Performing Arts. The University also features other sophisticated laboratories devoted to arts and sciences, acres of property for environmental research, and many specialized facilities such as its radio and TV broadcast studios. Students can gather in the University Commons Complex that includes the John Victor Machuga Student Center, Speert Hall, and a conference center. The complex also contains an art gallery lounge, recreational areas, an ATM, a bookstore, and several auxiliary dining areas.
Sports
The University has 13 intercollegiate sports teams, six for men and seven for women. Campus facilities include a competition-size indoor pool, outdoor tennis courts, natural-grass soccer and softball fields, 3,000-seat Recreation Center, baseball stadium, and lighted A-Turf football/field hockey complex.
Alumni
Approximately 62,000 alumni live in all 50 states, and 33 countries from Australia to Turkey.
