Women held 19.4% of key editor jobs at the USA's 1,564 daily newspapers last year.
WORKER-TRAINING PROGRAMS
The best jobs in the new information society - in virtually every industry - will be filled by workers who can READ, WRITE, COMPUTE, COMMUNICATE, AND THINK.
VIDEO PROGRAMMERS
Communications, especially the programming segment, offers bright potential. Video programmers are involved with three basic functions: pre-production, production, post-production.
COMPUTERS
A person who wishes to become a TV reporter should know how to use desktop computers and graphics programs.
MOVIE & VIDEO PRODUCTION
Small movie and video production companies should offer outstanding opportunities for young persons who lack connections to land jobs with major studios.
WRITING
Jobs involved with writing are widely diverse. However, almost all share the same general employment outlook: much competition.
TELEVISION/FILM PRODUCER
Expanding cable TV networks and consumer video market have created more markets for producers. This will continue being a competitive field.
RADIO/TV ANNOUNCER
Keen competition for jobs; many more job seekers that jobs in this relatively small field. Entry-level openings more likely at small radio stations in small cities. Jobs at these stations may include a wide variety of duties in addition to announcing. Those knowledgeable in business, consumer, health news may have an advantage.
LEGAL ASSISTANT
Long term outlook is very good. Need for legal services will grow with size of population, national economy and introduction of new legislation. In order to keep cost down, the following institutions are expected to hire more assistants and fewer attorneys: business corporations, insurance companies, banks, community legal services, government, consumer organizations, courts.
RADIO/TV ANNOUNCER: Good voice, free of regional dialect. Good vocabulary, fluent speech. Sense of showmanship and timing. Good judgement. Sense of humor helpful.
TELEVISION/FILM PRODUCER: Talent, creativity, self-critical judgment, stamina. Must also have good business sense and stay in touch with public tastes and wants. Strong communication and interpersonal skills essential.

Average Salary Offer
CHEMISTRY = $27,721
PHYSICS = $26,835
Three-fifths of the nation's 105,000 chemists work in industry, many in research and development and the rest in production, quality control, management, sales, and even finance. They may also work in advertising, public relations, environmental protection, and industrial safety and health departments.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the job prospects for chemists will be best in PHARMACEUTICAL and BIOTECHNOLOGY INDUSTRIES.
The best opportunities will be related to ELECTRONICS, ENERGY, DEFENSE, AND PERHAPS SPACE.
Many factors in today's global economy suggest that the future projections for engineering are excellent. This is especially true in engineering areas such as; chemical, environmental, materials & manufacturing engineering.
The continued demand for new and improved products and more economical processes will make for an exciting, dynamic future for chemical engineers.
There are about 49,000 chemical engineers. Job opportunities should be good through the year 2,000, especially in the fields of PHARMACEUTICAL, BIOTECHNOLOGY, AND MATERIALS SCIENCE.
Starting Salary (BS) = $31,000 a year in private industry.
As a result of their knowledge of electrical phenomena and technology, electrical engineers work in a large number of capacities that support total engineering efforts in the industries that employ them.

As the environmental problems of the world grow more complex, the demand for formally trained environmental engineers is expected to continue to increase.
The outlook for employment is good primarily because of the development of new products by private industry. In addition, problems of pollution, energy, and health care must be addressed by chemists.
Little growth is expected in college and university positions, and competition for existing positions is expected to be very strong.

Whatever your field, the US Government offers you opportunities to apply your skills and knowledge. The government offers over 200 occupations; across the country and around the world.
The best bets for federal employment will be found among the hard sciences, financial management, some engineering specialties, and health occupations.
Planning for the long term can pay big dividends. Starting your Career in government and then moving to the private sector is a good long-term plan.
More states will increase their budgets for State Tourism Bureaus. This should also create new job/career opportunities. A background in hospitality management and marketing should prove useful to break into this field.
Federal bank regulation agencies have an above average job opportunity.
Terrorism and/or the threat of terrorism should create new career opportunities. There will be an upswing for additional employment needed by government law enforcement.
The CIA have an above average career opportunities in terms of job security. Education and experience that are helpful include: economics with a concentration in analyzing international data; computer science; engineering; business experience; and linguistics. An MBA degree would also prove useful.
They should offer outstanding career opportunities. The US government's BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms) have the task of stomping out the evils of: alcohol, tobacco, and firearms.

There is a great demand in birth centers, hospitals, HMOs and county health departments, where there are many more openings than qualified nurse-midwives to fill them. There is also rapid growth in private practice settings. The strongest demand is in the underserved rural and urban areas.
Job prospects are very favorable in rural hospitals but there is some competition in suburban areas.
Long term employment prospects are good because of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, the rise in tuberculosis cases, aging of population and increasing emphasis on primary health care.
Implementation of a national health plan would require more nurses, particularly those with advanced training.
