What is African, African-American & Caribbean Studies?
This major is an interdisciplinary program that offers students an opportunity to learn about the African cultures and sub-cultures through a wide array of disciplines. Students are required to learn about these cultures through the lens of history, literature, psychology, language, and other areas of scholarly research and study.

Aside from majoring in African, African-American and Caribbean Studies, what else can I do that may enhance my qualifications? Students in the African, African-American, and Caribbean Studies major at William Paterson have numerous opportunities to enhance their academic experience. Students can contact the department about internships in such places as non-profit organizations, law offices, and in government offices. Finally, students can join various groups on campus such as the Brothers for Awareness (BFA), the Caribbean Student Association (CARIBSA), Haitian American Student Association (HASA), the university chapter of the NAACP and the Sisters for Awareness, Black Leadership, and Equality (SABLE) which will enable them to meet others with similar interests. Also, many students find that a study abroad experience enhances their curriculum because they are given the opportunity to experience other cultures.
