Policy on Management of Communicable Diseases

If a child exhibits any of the following symptoms, s/he should not attend school. If such symptoms occur at the Center, the child will be removed from the classroom, and the parent will be called to take the child home. Illness is considered an emergency. We must be able to reach parents/guardians at all times. The Child Development Center reserves the right to request immediate removal of ill children to protect the health of all children and staff at the Child Development Center.

Severe pain or discomfort Acute diarrhea
Vomiting Oral temperature of 101.5 degrees F
Sore throat Thick/colored mucus in nose
Severe/persistent coughing Red eyes or discharge from eyes
Infected untreated skin patches Difficult or rapid breathing
Skin rashes lasting longer than 24 hours Swollen joints

Once a child is symptom-free, and a physician sends a note stating that the child no longer poses a serious health risk, the child may return to the Center. The child must be free from fever, diarrhea, or vomiting for 24 hours prior to returning to the Center. The child must be on antibiotics for 24 hours for strep throat or conjunctivitis before returning.

If a child contracts any of the following diseases, please report it to us immediately. The child may not return to the Center without a doctor's note stating that the child presents no risk to herself/himself or others.
