Policy on Release of Children


The Center must be notified in advance if anyone other than a person specified on the pick up list is going to pick up a child. If the staff does not know the person picking up your child, identification will be required. Any person picking up a child from the Center must be at least eighteen years of age. No child will be allowed to go home with anyone who appears to be impaired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

A court order is required to prohibit a parent from visiting or picking up a child. Please submit a copy of the court order to the Center, which will be placed in your child's confidential file.

Drop-in Policy
Drop-in service is available to children registered either part time or full time at the CDC and only when space allows. Parents/guardians must call the Director at least 24 hours in advance. .Drop-in fees are to be paid at the end of each day of attendance with a check or money order made out to William Paterson University.

If you are paying with cash you must make the payment directly at the Bursar's Office located in College Hall. Please bring a copy of the receipt to the Child Development Center Director.

Absences and Lateness
Please notify the Child Development Center when your child is going to be absent. The Child Development Center can not credit or allow families to make-up time for a child that is absent due to illness or for any other reason.

Please notice that morning circle time starts at 9:15. If you arrive during circle time, quietly say good bye to your child and bring him or her to the group. Please notify the Director if you are going to be late picking up your child. You will be billed according to the agreed upon drop in rate.

Emergency Numbers & Schedules
The Center must be able to contact you at all times. Please be certain that the Center has your most recent emergency number and class schedule. If we do not have the current phone number it is difficult to notify you should an emergency occur.

Weather and Emergency Closings
The Child Development Center will close for inclement weather whenever the University is closed. The closings are announced by 6:30 AM on major radio and television stations. In addition, you can call the Center at 973-720-2529 to hear a recorded message about closings.
