Student Researchers

The Political Science Department provides the opportunity for students to engage in extended research projects. Some of these may be done as part of regular course requirements, others may be done as independent studies or Honors Projects, and still others may involve students as "research assistants" to faculty who are engaged in extended research projects of their own.

In Fall 1996, for example, Poli Sci/music major Thom Brooks worked with Prof. Chadda on her project on the globalization of democracy in South Asia, which is to be published by Lynne Reiner and Oxford University presses. Thom wrote a paper on the "Prospects and Problems of Democracy in Nepal" -- a strategically important country straddling the borders of India and China. This focus called upon Thom to combine theories and methodologies he gleaned from courses in International Studies and Comparative Politics. Thom presented his paper at the Asian Studies Conference held at Dowling College on Long Island, a conference mainly for established academics in the field of Asian Studies.

If you are interested in becoming a serious scholar-researcher, please see either the department chair or one of the faculty with whom you think you might want to work.
