Daniel Ellsberg

Daniel Ellsberg, a writer, activist and lecturer who leaked the Pentagon Papers to the media in 1969 and thereby helped increase public awareness of the Vietnam War, presented a lecture on campus, “Free Speech in a Time of War.” His visit was sponsored by the Department of Political Science, the Pre-Law Program, the Master’s Program in Media Studies, and the Master’s Program in Public Policy and International Affairs. After the lecture, he participated in a student panel.

Josef Olmert
, an expert on the Middle East, Syria, Lebanon, Palestinian and Israeli politics, presented a series of discussions on campus on December 6 through Thursday, December 8. His lectures included “The Sharon Plan: How the New Kadimah Party Hopes to Move Israel and Her Neighbors Towards a Lasting Peace,” and “America, Syria, Iran and Israel: Averting Disaster in the Middle East.” Olmert also joined with students from various courses for a talk and discussion on Israeli-Palestinian relations.

Karen Ellis, a political science major, was awarded a scholarship by the New Jersey chapter of the National Association of Water Companies, a trade association comprised of investor-owned water utilities. After law school, Ellis plans a career in teaching and conducting research advocating change in public policy to preserve natural resources. She won the scholarship by writing an essay outlining her future plans
