Earth Spiral, a sculpture by Elaine Lorenz

Anne Ciliberti, library director, has been appointed to the New Jersey Library Network Review Board.  Ciliberti is one of eight librarians from across the state who were selected for the board, which will advise state librarian Norma E. Blake on collaborative projects and services offered through the library network.

Textile works by student artists are on view through October 19 in the Power Art Gallery.  The exhibit, curated by Nisha Drinkard, art, is titled “Permanent Marks:  Transforming Cloth into Art and Design.”

“Earth Spiral,” an outdoor sculpture by Elaine Lorenz, art, has been installed at the Plaza at Richard W. DeKorte Park at the Meadowlands Environment Center in Lyndhurst.  Her work was the first commissioned by the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission’s Arts Advisory Board.  Filled with euonymous plants, the sculpture will remain green throughout the year.

A book edited by Casey Lum, communication, Perspectives on Culture, Technology and Communication: The Media Ecology Tradition, was selected by The Media Ecology Association for its Lewis Mumford Award for Outstanding Scholarship in the Ecology of Technics for 2006 in recognition of its original scholarly contribution to studies in the history, and/or philosophy of technology or science, studies of specific technologies, techniques or media and/or their social, cultural and psychological effects or analysis and criticisms of the technological information society.

Sarah Shechner
, a senior majoring in music, received the 2006 Thomas Kean Scholarship given by the Garden State Arts Foundation.  She was one of ten recipients, all of whom are pursuing undergraduate degrees in the performing arts at colleges and universities in New Jersey.

Rick Voegele, a senior majoring in music, will perform as tenor soloist with the Pro Arte Chorale in a performance of Schubert’s Mass in G and Vivaldi’s Gloria on Sunday, October 22, at Bergen Community College in Paramus.
