Ming Fay, art, exhibits his work, “Floating Reed,” at the 5th Shenzhen International Ink Painting Biennial 2006 at the He Xiangning Art Museum in Shenzhen, China. The event runs through January 10, 2007. Fay also installed a sculpture called “Goldilocks” in the lobby of the Tivoli apartments in Philadelphia on November 20.
Payton MacDonald, music, took five of his students, all music majors, on a weeklong tour of schools in rural Kentucky during the first week of November at the invitation of a Kentucky non-profit arts organization called New Performing Arts whose mission is “enriching cultural experiences throughout Kentucky.” The students, Jeff Brown, Theo Mertz, Kurt Patrick, Shannon McClure and Shannon Zakarison, played as a percussion ensemble and taught the students about the instruments, the history of music, and some compositional techniques during three presentations per day, eventually reaching more than 4,000 students during the week. Robert MacFarlane, University Police, was honored for more than 20 years of volunteering for the Special Olympics. He received the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics John Carion ”Unsung Hero” award at the recent Special Olympics International Conference held in Buffalo. During his years of service to the organization, he has raised more than $200,000, served on numerous committees, and organized events.
