The William Paterson University Department of Music has achieved reaccreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music, a national accrediting organization, for the undergraduate and graduate programs.
George Tice, the award-winning New Jersey photographer, will host a special tour of his exhibit of recent photographs, “Paterson II,” on Sunday, February 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Ben Shahn Galleries at William Paterson University in Wayne. Admission is $25 and includes a reception. Copies of Tice’s book, Paterson II, will be available for purchase and signing by the artist.
Andrew Hill Trio to Open Spring Jazz Room Series on February 11
Jazz composer and pianist Andrew Hill will open William Paterson University’s Spring Jazz Room Series, one of the most prestigious university-sponsored jazz events in the country, on Sunday, February 11. His trio will include Eric McPherson on drums and John Herbert, a William Paterson jazz alumnus, on bass.
William Paterson University to Present Spoken Word Artists the Last Poets on February 7 The Last Poets, the seminal spoken-word artists from the 1960s, will present an evening of performance poetry and performance poetry workshops for high school and college students, on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at William Paterson University in Wayne. The event is being held as part of the University's observance in February of African Heritage Month. |
Seymour C. Hyman, president of William Paterson College from March 1, 1977 to June 1985, died on December 21, 2006 at age 87 in Sarasota, Florida. He was responsible for strengthening the core operations of the institution, increasing the diversity of students and staff, and providing the basis for the institution’s future growth and development.
University to Observe Martin Luther King Day on January 25
William Paterson University will observe Martin Luther King Day with a lecture by Tyrone Bledsoe, Ph.D., founder and executive director of the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB). The event will be held on January 25 in the David and Lorraine Cheng Library Auditorium at 12:30 p.m. Bledsoe will present the keynote address for the program titled “We Are the Keepers of the Dream,” for the University’s celebration of the life of Martin Luther King. The lecture is open to the public. Bledsoe directs the SAAB, a national organization “established to enhance the experiences of and instill a spirit of care in African American and Latino males in colleges and universities around the country.” He is a contributing author to the recently published book African American Men in College. Active in higher education, he lectures on his research about the experiences of African American males, and as a motivational speaker. Men’s Basketball Enters Heart of NJAC Schedule Anderson Named NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Year to Lead Football Selections |
Women’s Basketball Wins 12th Straight Game, Monahan Earns 250th Victory Head coach Erin Monahan earned her 250th career victory as the William Paterson women’s basketball team (14-2, 5-0 NJAC) survived a late challenge, defeating Ramapo (4-10, 0-4 NJAC), 66-62, Jan. 13 at the Rec Center. The Pioneers have won 12 straight contests.
William Paterson junior guard Michelle Pellichero (Milltown, N.J./Bishop Ahr) received her third honor of the week, earning a spot on the ECAC Metro Region Women’s Basketball Honor Roll Jan. 10. Already named the PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) and the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Week, Pellichero averaged 19.3 points per game in three Pioneer victories Jan. 3-6.
