Patrick R. Boyle, a freshman, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank that can be conferred by the Boy Scouts of America. He is a member of Troop 76 in Lincoln Park. Boyle’s Eagle Scout project was the construction of prayer garden on the grounds of St. Joseph’s School in Lincoln Park. He has been a scout since 1994. Marina Budhos, English, received a 2007 fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Joe Coco, art, has released a CD, Garden State, which “addresses Jersey as a 'gateway' through which generations still pass in search of the American Dream.” This past summer, Coco’s paintings and drawings about Sicily were exhibited in a show “If Walls Could Speak,” in Italy. Vincent Parrillo, sociology, has been elected vice president of the Eastern Sociological Society for 2008-09. Founded in 1930, the society is the most prominent of regional associations in sociology. The William Paterson University yearbook staff has been recognized by Taylor Publishing with an Honorable Mention Award of Excellence for its dedication, efforts and accomplishments. The 2006 yearbook is included in the 2007 Yearbook Yearbook, Taylor’s annual publication dedicated to showcasing yearbook designs and trends. Only 10 percent of yearbook staffs across the country are honored with honorable mention recognition. Deanna Vander Ploeg, a sophomore, served as editor; Melissa Reynolds, assistant director of campus activities, is the adviser.
