Works by 33 visual artists who received New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship Awards in 2005 and 2006 are on view at William Paterson University’s Ben Shahn Galleries fthrough April 20, 2007.
In a unique celebration of the late Russ Berrie’s philanthropic legacy, William Paterson University will join his other beneficiaries in a series of memorial events created to coincide with his birthday. The programs are being coordinated by The Russell Berrie Foundation.
Minniejean Brown Trickey kicked off the University’s annual observance of Women’s History Month on March 1 with a lecture about a seminal event in her life: she was one of nine young African American students who desegregated Little Rock High School in September 1957. Earlier in the day a film about her life, Journey to Little Rock: The Untold Story of Minnijean Brown Trickey, was shown in the Cheng Library Auditorium.
Patrick R. Boyle, a freshman, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank that can be conferred by the Boy Scouts of America. He is a member of Troop 76 in Lincoln Park. Boyle’s Eagle Scout project was the construction of prayer garden on the grounds of St. Joseph’s School in Lincoln Park. He has been a scout since 1994. Read More Ben Zander and Rosamund Stone Zander, co-authors of The Art of Possibility: Transforming Professional and Personal Life, will present a lecture as part of The Society of Leadership and Success, a national organization designed to give college students the motivation, support and training to become effective leaders, on Tuesday, March 27, at 6:45 p.m. at William Paterson University in Wayne.
The Communication Department at William Paterson will present a production of Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses, from March 23 to 28 in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus. |
The Legacy Award Gala and Silent Auction, the William Paterson University Foundation’s annual event to raise funds to support the University’s mission of promoting student success and academic excellence, will be held on Saturday, April 14 at The Villa at Mountain Lakes.
New Online Auction Offers Additional Opportunity To Support Legacy Gala Interested in a trip to the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas? Or tickets to see Norah Jones at Madison Square Garden—with backstage passes? These are just two of approximately a dozen items up for bid through a new online auction created to expand support for William Paterson University’s 17th annual Legacy Award Gala and Silent Auction. A variety of unique items are available on the auction Web site, www.WPLegacyAuction.cmarket.com. Online bidding continues through April 12. Additional bidding on these items, as well as additional items, will take place at the gala on April 14 at The Villa at Mountain Lakes. Funds raised by the auction will support significant University initiatives–including scholarships, student life, and faculty research–that promote student success and academic excellence. “This is a wonderful way for those who might not be able to attend the dinner to support the University and its mission, and have fun in the process,” says Sandra Deller, vice president for institutional advancement. William Paterson head coach Erin Monahan was named the Russell Athletic/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III Region 3 Coach of the Year.
William Paterson University Club Sports The 2006-07 William Paterson Men’s Bowling Team is currently ranked third in the nation in the Bowling Writers Association of America poll. The team finished the regular season with five tournament victories and won the Eastern Intercollegiate Bowling Conference championships. The team, which is a club sport, heads to the U.S. Bowling Conference East Coast Championships March 24-25 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The William Paterson University Men’s Ice Hockey Team, also a club sport, finished the season ranked seventh in the Southeast Region of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. With 25 wins, a new school record, the team also placed second in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Association. The team’s efforts represent the highest rankings for William Paterson’s Ice Hockey Team in the team’s 30-year history. |

Martinez Earns First-Team All-NJAC Honors
Custis Earns WBCA, d3hoops.com All-Region Honors William Paterson senior guard Luci Custis (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) was named to the d3hoops.com All-America Fourth Team, March 18. Previously named to the Kodak/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III All-America Honorable Mention Team and the d3hoops.com All-Atlantic Region First Team, Custis was selected as the 2007 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, earning a spot on the All-NJAC First Team.

The William Paterson baseball team kicked off its 2007 campaign at the Greater Phoenix Invitational March 9-16. Through the games of March 20, the Pioneers have posted an overall record of 6-3-1. Softball Off to 8-4 Season Start The William Paterson softball team is off to a 8-4 overall record to start its 2007 season, including a 7-3 upset of No. 7 Wisconsin-Eau Claire March 10 at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Panama City Beach, Fla. Women’s Basketball Advances to Second Round of NCAA Tournament
The William Paterson women’s basketball team (23-6) received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998, and just the sixth time in program history. The Pioneers pulled off a 69-61 first-round upset of No. 22/22 McDaniel March 2, then saw their season come to a close with a 74-59 loss to host Randolph-Macon in the second round March 3 in Ashland, Va. Pioneers Sweep Major NJAC Awards William Paterson swept the major New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women’s Basketball awards, earning a total of six accolades. |
