A meeting of the Inter-American Organization
for Higher Education (IOHE), an association created to foster
the development of higher education in the Americas, was hosted

from educational institutions in South America, Mexico and Canada
were in attendance.
President Arnold Speert is a vice president representing the United

body is Latino; the University recently launched a major and minor
in Latin American studies.
IOHE was created in 1979 as an association of universities that
promotes cooperation between member institutions and fosters the
development of higher education in the Americas. The IOHE offers
a variety of activities primarily through the Institute of University
Management and Leadership (IGLU) and the College of the Americas
(COLAM). There are currently 400 members of the organization. During
their meetings on campus, the board of directors planned for IOHEs
biennial meeting in November 2003, as well as reviewed the accomplishments
of
the IGLU and COLAM.
