Fire Safety

The Senior Fire & Safety Inspector organizes, plans and conducts inspections of buildings for compliance with NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) and uniform Fire Safety code of NJ. The inspector also ensures that exit, emergency signs, fire extinguishers, sprinklers, standpipe and fire alarm systems are maintained properly and comply with Fire & Safety code requirements

The entire Campus community is strongly urged to familiarize themselves with locations of fire extinguishers, stairways, and emergency exits in the event of a fire.

Do not test smoke or heat detectors.
Fire suppresion and detection systems are routinely maintained and inspected according to NJ state laws by certified personnel. If your smoke detector is sounding, exit the building immediately, please do not attempt to correct any problem yourself.

Report any fires,
no matter how small, immediately to University Police at 973.720.2301. Indicate building, floor, area and intensity. They will summon all necessary personnel and equipment.

Remember:
fire extinguishers are not to be used to put out a fire; they are to clear a path through a fire to safety.
