Angela M. Aguirre served as department chairperson for six years.
She was the creator of the Legal Interpretation and Translation
Program, and obtained many state grants for various programs and
activities. She now travels and dances tango throughout the world
with her husband Meyer Kaplan, also a retired William Paterson faculty
member, who taught math.

Joseph Brandes introduced and taught
major new graduate and undergraduate elective courses. He served
as acting academic dean during the College "transition phase."
He was long-time adviser to our chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, International
History Honor Society and received its award for "Outstanding
Service and Dedication." He served as faculty adviser to the
Jewish Students Association (Hillel). He is the author of Immigrants
to Freedom, and Herbert Hoover and Economic Diplomacy.

Paul K. Chao received a Ph.D. from New York University in 1963
and graduated from the University of Cambridge, England in 1967.
He taught at William Paterson University for 21 years and retired
in 1990. He is the author of four books and ten scholarly articles.
He is now translating a French book titled Sorcery to English.
The University honored him with the title Professor Emeritus on
May 6, 1991. The University also honored him with a Life Achievement
Award for his scholarship and promoting understanding of world cultures
on November 16, 2002. Dr. Chao was bestowed a Certificate of Special
Congressional Recognition of outstanding and invaluable service
to the community on November 16, 2002. Currently, he conducts seminars
in the Department of African, African-American, and Caribbean Studies.

from 1995 to 1997 and was department chair from 1985 to 1987. He
retired from the U.S. Army a Colonel in 1977 after 30 years of service.
He served in Italy, Korea, Philippines, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam.
He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service
Medal with oak leaf cluster, and other combat and service medals.
He was a Fourth Degree with the Knights of Columbus. He received

William Muir taught ceramics, sculpture and art education. He also served as interim department chair, and was active in curriculum affairs during the transition from a teachers college to a multi-purpose institution. Currently he divides his time among making wood sculptures, operating his model-making firm, and volunteering at his church. As a member of the New York City Model Making Team, he helped create models for Super Bowl 2001 ads introducing Cingular Wireless, makes production models for a large cookware corporation, and is currently working on an international ad campaign for Xerox. He is also involved in volunteer work, and travels to Europe and England. Any remaining strength is commandeered by his six grandchildren.

William M. Willis Jr. served as associate dean of the Urban Studies
Department, assistant to the academic vice president, acting dean
of the College of Education, chairman of the Department of Educational
Leadership and, in the summer of 2000, as interim chair of the Department
of Sociology. He was the first African American to be
elected to public office in West Orange, NJ when in 1999, he was
elected
to a three year term on the Board of Education. Willis earned his
master’s and doctoral degrees from Harvard University and
served as a Teaching Fellow there during each of his four years
of graduate study. He is the co-author of Sociology: The Study
of
Human Interaction. A jazz enthusiast, he spends most of his
time
studying and playing the tenor sax and researching his family history.
