Verification Procedures

Simply put, Verification means WPUNJ will compare your family's income documents (federal tax returns, rental value and debt, etc) and our Verification Form against what was reported on your financial aid application (FAFSA).

If your family was selected for this procedure, it doesn't mean something is wrong. Verification selection is usually random or by edit flagging by U.S. Department of Education. Corrections will also be sent to State of NJ.

Any delay in submitting your documentation will greatly slow down your financial aid awarding. It is recommended that you submit your documentation as soon as possible.

Dependent Students - Verification Form and Document Request (most students)

Independent Students - Verification Form and Document Request (only if you are over 24 years of age, married, orphan and/or a graduate student)

Addtional Information
Verification must be completed or you *WILL NOT* be eligible to receive any financial aid funds, including Stafford Loans. The NJ Office of Student Assistance also requires that all students selected for federal verification meet those requirements before receiving any funds from the State of New Jersey.

Failure to respond to requests for verification or other additional information requests will jeopardize your current and future receipt of financial assistance.

Once the Financial Aid Office has received all documentation and processed the file, your financial aid awarding will commence.

Federal Income Tax Reporting
WPUNJ strongly urges you to keep complete and accurate records. You must file your taxes as per IRS regulations. If you do not have your federal tax documents, you can contact the IRS by phone at 1-800-829-1040 or by visiting their Walk-in Centers or by the IRS Website.
