The Master of Music has three concentrations- music education, jazz studies (choose jazz performance or jazz arranging), and music management. The music education concentration allows students to enhance teaching skills, bring performance skills to a higher level, and gain greater personal insight into the field of music education. The music management concentration provides advanced education in the areas of music business, music management, entrepreneurship and entertainment law as they pertain to the recording industry. The jazz studies concentration offers a comprehensive experience in enhanced small jazz ensemble, solo performance, and arranging/composition and the potential for high-level, primary source research and writing only available in the New York area. Through an ongoing connection with the New York music industry, students are immersed in the industry environment, fostering a clear understanding of the role and needs of the artist.
Each program consists of 36 credits and includes a comprehensive exam and a master’s project or thesis. The jazz studies and music education tracks also require an exit recital
