Health & Wellness Center - Insurance Information

In accordance with New Jersey law, all non-international full-time students and all international full and part-time students are mandated to have health insurance. For health insurance purposes, full time is defined as an undergraduate student taking 12 or more credit hours or a graduate student taking 9 or more credits. For the 2009-2010 academic year, United Healthcare will be providing insurance coverage for students attending William Paterson University. All non-international full-time students and all international full and part-time students are automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan and will be charged for this on their student account.

The student health insurance plan is also available for non-international part-time students directly through United Healthcare.  Students who purchase insurance for themselves may also apply for insurance for their spouses and children. To purchase this insurance, complete the enrollment application directly on line at www.firststudent.com

Students who already have their own health insurance and do not wish to pay for the student plan must complete a Health Insurance Waiver form.  This form must be completed on-line by October 1, 2009 for the academic year or by February 19, 2010 for the Spring semester in order to have the fee removed from their bill.  The insurance waiver form may be completed on-line at http://cms.wpunj.edu/studentaccounts/health-insurance-waiver.dot. Waiver forms must be completed each academic year.  If the waiver form is not received by the deadline, the student will be officially enrolled in the plan and will be billed.

Claim forms are available at William Paterson University's Health and Wellness Center and the United Healthcare website at www.firststudent.com. For further information regarding the insurance plan contact United Healthcare at 1-800-505-4160 or visit their website at the above address.
