Resnet Security Policy

Purpose

Due to virus outbreaks significantly impacting the network in the past semesters, the university has implemented Smart Enforcer, a system that enforces user authentication, anti-virus management, and operating system patch management. This policy outlines the security requirements a student’s computer must meet before gaining full access to the network.

Policy
The Information Technology Services unit is responsible to administer this policy, and to make referrals to appropriate administrative offices for disciplinary action. Any exception to the policy must be approved in writing by the Information Technology Services unit.

  1. Any student wishing to connect their computer using any supported Windows operating systems to the university network is required to authenticate and install Smart Enforcer in order to access the Internet.
    1. Anti-virus software must be present to use the Internet. The University provides students with a free copy of Norton Anti-virus Corporate Edition through Smart Enforcer to those who do not have Anti-virus software. The anti-virus software must be running and must have the latest software definitions.
    2. The computer is required to have the latest critical updates, hot fixes, and service packs installed on the computer before connecting.
