Allan Gorab, a 1972 graduate, and his wife, Michele, are helping to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the students and alumni of William Paterson University through their active participation and contributions.
The Gorabs made a benchmark gift that led to the opening of the Allan and Michele Gorab Alumni House, home of the Alumni Relations Office. In recognition of their leadership and support, the Alumni House bears their name.
"Michele and I have been fortunate in our lives and in our careers, placing us in a position to be financially able to help support the University,” says Gorab.
The couple has supported a wide range of fundraising efforts, from the Alumni House to scholarships.
“We named ‘The Joseph A. Gorab Scholarship’ in honor of my uncle, who spent his adult life as an educator: serving as a teacher, principal, and superintendent," says Allan. The scholarship provides funds to deserving special education students.
The Gorabs say that their greatest pleasure comes from having an impact on student success. “We appreciate the fact that William Paterson provides a quality education to area students, many of whom are first-generation college students or students who might otherwise be unable to attend college," he adds.
The couple hopes their actions serve as an example to new generations of students who will have the opportunity to “pay it forward” and continue the giving.
