John Victor Machuga (1923-1991), a native of Paterson, worked hard, studied diligently, and earned a college degree and master's degree, all while working full-time.

No stranger to adversity, John took a path similar to many of the numerous scholarship recipients that have been awarded his named scholarships.

In his will, he directed that his assets be used to create a foundation to provide support for education, research, the arts, and health care. Five of his closest friends were named as trustees of the foundation to ensure that his dreams were realized.

"We are proud to be associated with the University in its mission of student success,” says Bruce Waldman, executive director of the Machuga Foundation. “Our reasons for choosing to invest in William Paterson University include its focus on education through scholarships, such as the Paterson Teachers for Tomorrow Program, a program that benefits not only the students but the region as well."
