A commitment to advanced scholarship
and great teaching lies at the heart of William Paterson University's
belief in supporting and strengthening its faculty.
Endowed Professorships
The ability
of an institution of higher learning to recognize outstanding
achievement in scholarship and teaching through an appointment
to an endowed professorship or "chair" is
a hallmark of excellence to which the University aspires.
These academic posts, supported by their own funds, possess
a unique distinction, and would aid in continuing efforts
to attract and retain top scholars. Chairs can be named for
the benefactor, or a person he or she wishes to honor. The
establishment of an endowed professorship is a gift of immeasurable
value in the education of generations of students and significantly
enhances the prestige of the institution.
Faculty Development
Endowments can also be established for
faculty development: to recognize and encourage gifted faculty
members by providing resources for them to pursue their research
and scholarship or advance teaching excellence through innovative
technology.
