| • |
The desire to memorialize
others, particularly loved ones |
| • |
The desire to leave a personal
legacy |
| • |
A commitment to give something
back for the rewards received |
| Interest in perpetuating one’s own beliefs |
| An affinity to the programs and
goals of an institution |
| Many of these motivations
to give philanthropically will lead a donor to desire
some external recognition of their gift. This can be accomplished in a
number of ways. For example, a donor’s name can
be attached to an endowment fund, an academic program,
a building, classroom space, lecture halls, a scholarship
or a seminar series. |
| Either way, a gift
should be a joyful one — to both the donor and
the recipient of the charitable gift. |
