Emergency Preparedness

Members of the William Paterson University Community,

National and international events, and the advisories issued by government authorities remind us of our need to be vigilant and to be attentive to our efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for the University Community. With that in mind, please be reminded to familiarize yourself with the brief reference guides for addressing unusual and/or emergency circumstances. These documents are available on the Web through the University Police link and at the Public Safety Office.

Within this environment of uncertainty, it is important that our actions and behaviors provide comfort, and reassurance to our students and our colleagues, that we are working collaboratively to provide the excellent intellectual growth experience which is at the core of our mission, and protecting them from physical and emotional harm as well. We may be subjected to numerous real and unfounded reports of threats, events and tragedies. Your assistance in implementing measures to control the fears, reduce the risks, and to be prepared for emergencies is essential.

Specific actions continue to be taken within our Community to increase the level of safety and security the Campus provides. Your cooperation and understanding in conforming with new and different procedures which may be implemented to enhance our safety from time to time is requested. Additionally, please remember to be alert and observant Unusual behavior or occurrences, strange mail, packages or communications, missing materials, unattended packages and inordinate levels of absenteeism should immediately be brought to the attention of Public Safety at extension 2301.

Your cooperation and assistance will permit the University to continue to be a safe and secure campus.
