LGBTQ Programs Mission As a part of its commitment to promote a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all genders and sexual identities, the Women’s Center strives to validate the experiences and serve the needs of the LGBTQ community through its LGBTQ Programs. By initiating and endorsing advocacy programs aimed to reduce homophobia, heterosexism, and transphobia, the safety of LGBTQ students is supported. Finally, the empowerment and academic success of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) students is encouraged through education, programming, training, resources and advocacy initiatives. LGBTQ Programs Goals Working collaboratively with on and off campus services, programs, and student organization, through its LGBTQ Programs the Women’s Center strives to: Support all individuals across spectrums of gender, sexual and romantic identities. Initiate and support the development and implementation of programs that expand leadership development, intercultural competencies and support achievement towards intellectual, professional and personal goals. Advocate and support inclusive events, policies, practices and services. Connect students to existing campus and community resources and services. Emphasize and celebrate the diversity within the LGBTQ community. Provide training opportunities to foster a network of affirming allies who promote a campus environment that is safer, inclusive and welcoming to all LGBTQ students, faculty and staff. Offer unique and direct support to LGBTQ victims of gender-based violence, including sexual violence, dating and domestic violence, and stalking. Inform students and victims of gender-based violenc of available resources and options through preventative programs catered to LGBTQ community needs. LGBTQ Programs Vision The Women’s Center, through its LGBTQ Programs, envisions a university campus where individuals of all genders, sexual orientations, physical and mental abilities, ages, nationalities, socioeconomic status, religions, racial and ethnic identities are respected and valued; where the community works collectively for diversity and inclusion and against inequity, injustice and violence; and where all individuals feel safe, supported and empowered to pursue their intellectual, professional, and personal goals.
