Institutional Equity and Diversity

William Paterson University celebrates the diversity of our campus and our commitment to learn from each other, and about each other. A commitment to diversity is one of the University’s core values. William Paterson is one of the most diverse colleges and universities in New Jersey; approximately 60 percent of the student body are students of color. Since 2015, the University has been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), with more than 30 percent of current students claiming Hispanic heritage. All members of William Paterson are encouraged to become active participants in matters of diversity and inclusion to improve their understanding of these topics, foster strong relationships with others, and work toward positive change.

The Office for Student Diversity and Inclusion strives to promote a campus-wide environment that encourages all students to engage, respect, and positively impact their communities as change agents. Our objectives are:

  • to lead students to have open and challenging discussions around concepts of diversity, equity, and identity
  • encourage students to step out of their comfort zones
  • strive to provide a welcoming environment for all students
  • foster meaningful relationships across differences

Our student centers are located on the 2nd Floor of the Student Center; each are managed by students for students. Administrative offices are located in Suite 313, 3rd Floor of the Student Center.
