Donor Scholarship Program

William Paterson University has a robust Donor Scholarship Program, made possible by the generosity of the many alumni and friends who recognize the value of higher education and wish to make it a possibility for students with academic promise and financial need. Last year, more than 550 awards totaling over $1 million were made to undergraduate and graduate students from all five colleges. Scholarships ranged from $100-$15,000 and the average award was $1,375.

The Donor Scholarship Program Application for the following academic year is available online for all accepted and enrolled students during the second half of the spring semester. Completing this single, simple application enables students to compete for all scholarships available. An essay and a letter of recommendation (from a William Paterson University faculty or staff member, or from an external supervisor, mentor, or instructor) are required. A résumé and FAFSA are not required but are highly recommended.

Students who are awarded a donor scholarship are notified over the summer via their WPUNJ emails. In order to retain their scholarship awards, recipients must complete the required post-acceptance tasks by the deadline, as outlined in the award notice.

The Donor Scholarship application for the 2019-20 academic year will be available in March 2019. Click here to see scholarships for the 2018-19 academic year.

Disclaimer: The number and amount of scholarship awards listed anywhere in the WPUNJ website are for general information purposes only and should not be considered a guarantee of what a student will receive if selected. Actual award amounts vary based on students’ individual eligibility factors and funds available.

Unless specifically stated otherwise in the scholarship description, all scholarship recipients must be full-time students (12 undergraduate credits or 9 graduate credits) at William Paterson University for each of the fall and spring semesters and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. (Academic status and progress are evaluated at the conclusion of each semester.)
