INFORMATION FOR
Colin Hay, who first shot to fame with Men at Work and has performed as a solo artist for more than three decades, brings his tour to William Paterson University’s Shea Center for Performing Arts on Wednesday, April 3 at 8 p.m. as part of the University’s WP Presents! series.
1980s hitmakers Men at Work took home a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and sold more than 30 million records worldwide on the strength of No. 1 singles like “Who Can It Be Now?” and “Down Under.” By 1985, members of the band had gone their separate ways. Hay released his solo debut the following year, and over the course of more than three decades, he has recorded 12 more critically acclaimed studio albums that have helped establish him as one of his generation’s most hardworking and reliable craftsmen.
Hay’s performances are buoyant and full of life, drawing on vintage pop, pub rock, and folk to forge a unique sound. He has developed a reputation as a gifted raconteur with serious comedy chops, and his frequent appearances at Los Angeles’s Largo club helped garner him a legion of fans in the entertainment world. Among them was actor/director Zach Braff, who featured Hay’s music prominently in the Grammy-winning soundtrack for the movie Garden State, and invited him to appear as himself on the hit series Scrubs.
He has also toured the world several times with Ringo Starr & His All–Star Band, released an audiobook of Aesop’s Fables, starred in the award-winning documentary Waiting for My Real Life, and provided the voice for Fergus Flamingo in Disney’s The Wild.
His latest project born out of the pandemic, Now and the Evermore, released in 2022. This solo album faces down struggle, loss, and mortality with grit and wit.
Tickets are $85 for Gold Circle; $65 for orchestra/front loge; and $50 for rear loge. All tickets are an additional $5 on the day of the show. To purchase tickets, or for additional information, call the Shea Center for Performing Arts Box Office at 973-720-2371 or visit wp-presents.org.
