MEd in Curriculum and Learning with a Concentration in Bilingual/ESL Education

This program focuses on developing advanced practitioners in the fields of bilingual education and English for speakers of other languages. As part of the full master’s degree program in education, the concentration stresses principles of inquiry, theory, professional applications, and research. Students who are New Jersey certified teachers may also pursue, with additional requirements, a certification in either bilingual/bicultural education and /or ESL. This program is fully online with synchronous meetings.

August 1: Fall semester
December 1: Spring semester
April 15: Summer semester
*Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed on a space availability basis

*International students are advised to apply by:
April 1st: Fall (September intake)
November 1st: Spring (January intake)

Admission Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and official transcripts from all institutions of higher learning attended.
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of no less than 3.00 on 4.00 scale.
  • A Standard New Jersey teaching certificate or a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS).

Exit Requirements:

  • Successful completion of curriculum
  • A score of Advanced Low or higher on the Oral Proficiency Interviews (OPI) and Written Proficiency Tests (WPT) in English

Exception: Candidates for certification who have passed the Praxis Core tests will be exempt from taking the written English language proficiency test (WPT) requirement.
