Resources for Transfer Students

Welcome to William Paterson University! We're glad that you chose to join us and the Library is here to make your adjustment an easy one. While you are probably familiar with the Library at your previous school, it's a good idea to get to know the great resources and services that the David & Lorraine Cheng Library provides.

As an undergraduate student, your priority is to obtain library research skills that enable you to produce college-level work on the topic of your choice. Whether you are an experienced researcher or “just a beginner”, we will work with you to guide you through the maze of paper and electronic resources, search strategies, and information management techniques. Our goal is to help you become a confident and skilled user of information resources and services.

We strongly encourage you to schedule an orientation to our information services. Call 973-720-2663, email LibResearch@wpunj.edu or fill out a Schedule Research Help form.

Find everything you need through our website!

The Library homepage serves as a starting point for all of your research needs at the University. You can find valuable information about the many services and resources available to you.

Here you can:

  • Search for a variety of sources (articles, books, or everything at once!)
  • Chat with or make an appointment with a librarian for research help
  • Reserve a study room
  • Watch research-related tutorials
  • and more!
  • Books & Media

You can find books, ebooks, videos, audio recordings, and other useful resources using the Books & Media option in the main search box on our Library homepage.

Most materials can be borrowed, although loan periods may vary (see our Lending Services policy for more details).

Our Course Reserves collection may also contain copies of textbooks and required materials for your classes. Choose the Course Reserves option to see if we have books and materials from your class syllabus!

    Finding Articles

The Find Articles option can be used to locate articles on a variety of topics, with a single search.

If you want to be more precise (to a specific subject area or course), you can also limit your search to a specific database, such as PsycInfo or Proquest Education Database, with the Databases section or directly from the Databases underneath the main search. Your WPUNJ username and password will be required for access. Reference librarians can offer guidance in selecting and using any of these resources. For tips on searching databases, please see the Library Tutorials page.

    Interlibrary Loan

While our Library has a wide range of materials for your use, occasionally you'll come across something that we don't have. In these cases, Interlibrary Loan/Article Copy Service can be a great way to reqeuest books, book chapters, recordings, articles, and more from other libraries around the world! The Interlibrary Loan home page provides additional information pertaining to policies and procedures about using this service.

    Use of Other Libraries

We can assist you in locating and obtaining resources from other libraries.

For information about reciprocal agreements we have with other public and academic libraries, please visit the Use of Other Libraries page.

    Research Help

The Contact Us button on our homepage lists a variety of options for obtaining assistance.
