    Jaimeo Brown Transcendance
    with Jaleel Shaw and Chris Sholar

    WP jazz alumnus, drummer Jaimeo Brown has had a career that crisscrosses jazz, rap and R&B, having performed with such musicians as Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, Q-Tip, Greg Osby, among others. His groundbreaking band Transcendance celebrates music of the African Diaspora, through melody, improvisation, rhythm and spoken word. Joined by saxophonist Jaleel Shaw and fellow WP alumnus, guitarist Chris Sholar and guests, this concert promises to be a riveting and deeply memorable experience.

    Admission: General Public $15 • WP faculty, staff, alumni, and senior citizens $12 • Non-William Paterson students $8
    WP students are admitted free. • All tickets are an additional $3 on show day.

    Solo Pianist Bill Charlap

    WP jazz studies director Bill Charlap is known for his interpretations of American popular songs and has recorded albums featuring the music of Hoagy Carmichael, Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin. His 2015 Jerome Kern CD with Tony Bennett won a Grammy Award. This year, he was featured on the acclaimed all-Gershwin CD with Tony Bennett and Diana Krall. This intimate solo performance showcases Charlap’s great inventiveness and pianistic command.

She was recently listed asDown Beatmagazine’s “Rising Star” on soprano saxophone and is the first artist to be recognized by New York City’s American Federation of Musicians Local 802 Emerging Artist Award.

    Time Lapse Dance Ensemble’s Ice Cycle

    Ice Cycle is a dance expressing the fragility and dynamism of the Arctic icescape using artistry to illustrate climate change. The piece is inspired by choreographer Jody Sperling’s experience dancing on Artic polar sea ice. For this performance, Time Lapse Dance Ensemble collaborates with composer Matthew Burtner, a pioneer in eco-acoustics, to include ice-inflected sounds to create stunningly beautiful music.

Told with gentle humor, and featuring a beautiful musical score, this amusing tale traces the adventures of Madeline who – despite starting off on the wrong foot with a mischievous new neighbor – eventually learns that first impressions are not everything.

Kipling’s fantastic story teaches respect for life, both animal and human, and the idea of harmony amongst all living things.

His distinctive trumpet brought him to perform and record with legends like Tito Puente, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Larry Harlow, and many more. For this program, Vega will combine his unique sound and deep experiences with the WP Latin Jazz Ensemble, led by veteran faculty member Chico Mendoza.
