INFORMATION FOR
Accelerated 4+1 BS/MS Biotechnology:Biotechnology
Students in the BS Biotechnology program who have a 3.0 or higher GPA in both the major and overall can enter the accelerated 4+1 BS/MS Biotechnology:Biotechnology program as late as the middle of their junior year (before registration for senior courses). If a transfer student enters the BS Biology program during or at the end of their junior year the GPA from their previous institution(s) will be used to determine eligibility.
As seniors, students in the program are required to take three graduate level BIO courses: Molecular Biology (BIO5240; 3cr), Recombinant DNA Technology (BIO5300; 4cr), and Cell and Tissue Culture (BIO5310; 4cr). Students in the BS Biotechnology program may take an additional fourth graduate level BIO course that will also count toward both the BS and MS degrees.
Students will be dropped from the 4+1 pathway if they receive an F in any of the graduate courses taken during their senior year, or if their major or overall GPA falls below 3.0. Students dropped from the 4+1 pathway will be able to complete their BS Biology according to BS program degree policies.
Students apply to the MS Biotechnology program during their senior year. The GRE will be waived for BS/MS student entry into the MS program. There is no Thesis option for the accelerated BS/MS program.
